Today we inaugurated the vehicle with the children of Kanyogoga community, an informal settlement in Namuwongo area, Kampala.
In the morning session, we proposed three art based activities related to our main areas of action: visual art, literature and music.
Approximately 50 children spontaneously joined us.
Children participated with enthusiasm to the drum session, playing, dancing and, more importantly, using their energy in a positive way.
The litclub mentors read two books (starring a chameleon and an elephant) that captured the attention and excited the imagination of all those present.
As last activity we encouraged the children to interact with the vehicle and we suggested them to leave their colorful handprints on it.
They really appreciated this idea and some of them spontaneously continued to paint the wall near by.
This first session with the matatu was a great successful of smiles and emotions, a very good example of the positive impact we can achieve with MatatArt.
Many thanks to the community for the enthusiastic participation, to the team for the hard work and to our backers for their support…you made it happen!!
